It was early spring of 2023 when Grant Woodley began experiencing excruciating head pain. Initial medication helped relieve the discomfort, but it wasn't long before stroke-like symptoms landed him in the ER. Additional tests revealed several abscesses on Grant's brain that required immediate neurosurgery. His road to recovery was a slow journey that included weekly speech, occupational, and physical therapy appointments. During Grant’s battle, his wife, Nicole, was diagnosed with leiyomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer resulting from radiation treatments she received a decade earlier to combat breast cancer. After multiple surgeries throughout the summer and additional infection, Nicole knew it was time to ask for help. Thanks to recommendations from friends with the Iowa Soybean Association and Iowa Corn, the Woodleys were able to connect with Farm Rescue. Our volunteers and equipment were soon dispatched to their farm near Clarion, IA, to help bring in the family’s soybean crop.
