As colder weather approaches, now is the perfect time to think about winterizing your pump, meter, or Dura system. To help you avoid damage and maintain optimal performance, here are a few essential tips. Remember, the winterization process should be done before freezing conditions set in or after each season of use. Failing to properly winterize your Dura products may void the manufacturer’s warranty.
1. Empty and Rinse the Tank
First, ensure that the tank and any remaining product inside are completely emptied and thoroughly rinsed out. After the tank is clear, pour at least 3 gallons of RV non-toxic antifreeze into the tank or a 5-gallon bucket. This type of antifreeze is safe for your equipment, whereas engine antifreeze can be harmful to humans, animals, crops, and the environment—so it’s best to avoid that.
2. Run the Pump and Meter
Next, engage the pump and meter to get the antifreeze flowing through the entire system. Open your nozzle and dispense into a safe container like the Dura calibration jug. Ensuring that antifreeze circulates through all components is crucial for protecting your equipment from freezing and avoiding costly repairs during winter months.
3. Flush the System in Spring
Before using your Dura system in the spring, it’s important to flush it with fresh water to remove any remaining antifreeze or other residue. While you’re at it, take the time to thoroughly inspect all components of your system to ensure everything is in good working order before resuming use.
By following these simple steps, you can help extend the life of your equipment and ensure it’s ready to go when the warmer weather returns. Proper maintenance not only protects your investment but also ensures that your Dura products perform reliably season after season.
