Once a city kid who went to school to be a doctor, Mark Gold with Top Third Ag Marketing in Chicago became a widely-respected grain trader and analyst who continues to serve producers.
The story goes like this.
One college summer, Gold was asked if he wanted to work at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He said yes.
“I saw these guys yelling and screaming at each other…. I said ‘You know, this is right up my alley. I can see me doing this!’”
So he quit his pursuits to become a doctor and studied agriculture economics.
“I figured if a city kid was going to make commodity trading his life, he ought to know a little bit about raising corn, wheat, beans, cattle and hogs.”
In this episode of Grain IQ, Gold shares his historical perspective in grain trading and how that impacts today's grain marketing.
Grain IQ is a production of the Nebraska Rural Radio Association, in cooperation and with support from the Nebraska Soybean Board.
