In today's Episode of The Chronicles of Kayla --- I take over the MF 6S.165 with the Massey Ferguson RB 6140V Round Baler to continue wet baling RYE for our buddies cow calf operation .. We are trying something new this year! We have been interested in continuing to improve the quality of feed we are feeding our cattle. We decided to round bale some high moisture annual forages and give round baler silage a try!
This is the RB series silage baler by Massey Ferguson. This is the 4160V model, variable chamber, so we can change the size of the bale. One of the things that we love about this machine are the cutter knives that shorten the length of the cut of the stems. This increases the digestibility of the crop and helps us to feed even higher quality forage to improve animal performance. I can't wait to see how these cows perform this winter when we're feeding them.
The hydraulic drop floor allows us to slow down and let those big slugs of heavy windrow continue to feed without plugging the baler. This camless pickup is pretty cool. The absence of a cam track allows for five tine bars and teeth spaced just 2.5 inches apart, which causes a really clean pickup of the crop from the field. A crop press roller is positioned in front of the pickup to enhance crop feeding into the chamber.
