Lighter cattle kills in recent weeks were bringing packer boxes back up, but global economic uncertainty from China and the stock market dip were causes for concern.
Brad also mentioned the choice-select spread being very wide, indicating fewer cattle grading choice due to lighter weights.
They debated whether producers should continue marketing cattle at current weights or hold off until later given high input costs and uncertainty over fall prices. Overall it seemed a cautious optimism, acknowledging good current profitability but risks on the horizon.
